Virgin voyage

"I think we need a chest freezer for the garage." She said this like it was ordinary, obvious even.
This could not have been more foreign a concept to me, as if she had said "I'm buying a gun rack." Though we only had family guns and no bullets. We already had two fridges. Apparently were buying half a cow from a family and a farmer nearby.
We had three growing boys and meat was most of our grocery bill. We also fed friends, family and the 16 strong, Tuba section of the high school down the street. And their friends.
So while Karen loves learning more about every recipe, I am a bit of a health nut and have particular deas about nature and balance. I guess we are all picky about flavor, quality and health.
We appreciate meals worth making and the value of time. Taking it. Making it.
We were learning to eat as we never imagined. Sometimes we had to research what the cut was, often only known by other names. But whole beef and whole pork are universally used in older cuisine, asian, european...
It's a fascinating, beautiful journey.
